It is on the driver side of the transmission right near the front axle flange. Hopefully I lucked out with this one, still waiting for all the parts I ordered... The bit in the gearbox is a worm drive and the sensor is a hall effect sensor so it would suggest that there is part of it that rotates for it The 3 part numbers that make up the Speedometer Sending "Unit" are: 02A 409 197 = Pinion Gear Shaft, cost at the dealer was $17.50 02A 409 193 = Shaft Housing navigate here I would suggest you spray the connectors with electronic parts cleaner.

How many VSS sensors are there? 1 or 2? you can buy leads from eBay for around 10-20 quid though which work with the VCDS Lite though...
Does anybody have any input on what to replace and how? Is there another name for the VSS? Gas gauge & speedometer are working fine now, and a lot less cost! then when i pressed in the clutch and the engine revs dropped the speedo would drop down and then when I let the clutch back in it would bounce a bit
