In researching this problem, I spoke to a very experienced computer repair center who confirmed they have been getting in these models with the same exact problem. I tried the brightness keys and they worked for a while after start up and then they stopped working. all the batteries will die over a period of time and you may want to buy a new one or just continue on power supply... I am able now to use the USB ports for mouse and keyboard, but the on board mouse\keyboard still don't work after the wiping the whole thing! http://sohohosting.net/not-working/aspire-5517-keyboard-not-working.html There's apparently an update from Microsoft that causes the touchpad and keyboard to stop responding. I tried it on my laptop and it would cause it to reboot whenever I plugged it in. Sign Up Now! I am not saying Toshiba products are better than ACER nor I want to compare with any other brands. When i get to the windows log-in screen, sometimes the FN + F6 combination works but that's all.
