I had 2 identical keyboards, only one suddenly developed the symptoms. These are misfeatures even before discussing issues of battery life and poor wireless connectivity.

The only other keyboards I've used in the past few years are ones in university libraries, and those have a strange tendency to be super loud. No idea.  But it seems to be a software hiccup that's tenderly reminded of all it's appropriate keys when a new keyboard is added.
